"If a day goes by without my doing something related to photography, it's as though I've neglected something essential to my existence, as though I had forgotten to wake up."
Richard Avedon
My love affair with photography began when I was a child and walked into my mother's darkroom. I thought the whole process was magical, and even though today I shoot digital instead of film, I still do.
As a teenager growing up in central New Jersey, I spent my weekends shooting on the streets of NewYork City, eager to capture whatever I could on my Petri Rangefinder.
I am curious by nature, intensely interested in people and a wide variety of subjects. Photography gives me permission to explore that curiosity, whether I am creating a portrait, a travel piece or a food photograph. It was this same curiosity that led me to pursue a degree in psychology and political science.
Today, as an editorial photographer, I am told my gift is for working with people; I believe the CEO, the celebrity and the man selling hot dogs on the street deserve the same level of interest and respect.
I am honored when I am invited into someone’s life to tell their story with my images. Most recently, in addition to my freelance work, I was on staff with a regional magazine group.
The spectrum of images I have had the opportunity to create is a broad one, encompassing food and entertaining, portraits, travel and other lifestyle features. While this work is rewarding, I have recently launched an independent initiative in the City of Newark that has reignited my passion for street photography. See The Newark Project section for details.
